funeral

We had a memorial service for Rich Saturday. Does everybody come to a funeral and take stock of their own life?

Rich was four days older than me. Sunday I was older than he ever got to be. I'm going to die, too. You?

Maybe 500 people showed up. Most of them were in line for an hour before the service to greet the family, stayed almost 2 hours for the service, and more greeting and refreshments after. Do I have that many friends? Do you?

People got up and talked about his life. They laughed, they cried, but you knew that he had touched their lives deeply. Chance encounters became lifetime friends. How could I have that much impact in my life? How could you?

If you've got the answers, write a book. I'll buy it. If you even know a little bit, I'll buy a cup of coffee and be glad for the conversation. Rich has some time off now, but I'm still working. See you soon.

Jim
